Call for Coaches: AIM-AHEAD FHIR Collaborative Training Program (2025–2026)

The AIM-AHEAD FHIR Collaborative Training Program is seeking experienced professionals to serve as Coaches for the 2025–2026 cohort.

Each trainee will be matched with one Coach. Only AIM-AHEAD FHIR Track 3 trainees will be paired with a coach, who will support the trainee in achieving key program milestones—encouraging accountability, providing guidance to help build a skilled workforce in FHIR — across research, healthcare, industry, and community settings. 

Coach Commitment & Support

  • Coach one assigned trainee through the AIM-AHEAD FHIR Collaborative Training Program

  • Hold bi-weekly coaching meetings (virtual) during the program period

  • Focus on milestone completion, goal tracking, and accountability

  • Support effective communication and Train-the-Trainer readiness

  • Reinforce program structure, timelines, and expectations

  • No technical FHIR instruction required

  • Commit to the full 2025–2026 program cycle (February 2026 through July 2026) 

  • Receive a $1,000 total stipend, paid at program completion (terms apply)

Stipend

  • $1,000 total stipend per Coach

  • Paid at the end of the program (terms and conditions apply)

Eligibility Criteria

We welcome coaches with various backgrounds, including healthcare, informatics, data science, computer science, engineering, allied health, health professions,  population/public health, social sciences and related fields. Coaching or mentoring experience is preferred. Coaches must reside in the U.S. or U.S. territories. Coaches must be able to submit a W9 form through PaymentWorks. Coaches may participate as a coach in only ONE AIM-AHEAD program during this program period (January 2025 - July 2026). AIM-AHEAD-funded Coordinating Center Personnel or AIM-AHEAD-funded Awardees (MPIs, PIs, Co-Investigators, trainees, other personnel) are eligible to apply, but if accepted, they will not receive the stipend. Previous AIM-AHEAD Mentors/Coaches are welcome to apply. However, individuals currently serving as mentors and coaches for the other AIM-AHEAD Programs are not eligible to apply. Individuals who are currently trainees or research fellows in other AIM-AHEAD programs are not eligible to apply. Please view TERMS AND CONDITIONS for AIM-AHEAD Coaches.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS for AIM-AHEAD FHIR Coaches
The Terms and Conditions include the benefits and responsibilities that the coaches agree to when they accept the AIM-AHEAD FHIR coach role.


1. Coaches must have a MA/MS, Ph.D., MD or equivalent qualification (such as PharmD., DNP, or DrPH).


2. Coaches must be able to submit a W-9 through PaymentWorks.


3. Coaches must be associated with a U.S.-based organization (educational institution, private sector, community organization, etc.). Coaches not affiliated with a U.S. organization or institution are not eligible to apply.


4. Coaches must reside in the United States (including U.S. territories) for the duration of the training program period (January 2026-July 2026).


5. Coaches will have no conflict of interest with AIM-AHEAD. A conflict of interest would be individuals who are AIM-AHEAD stakeholders and current individuals who work with the AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center for the AIM-AHEAD Training Programs.


6. AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center members selected as AIM-AHEAD coaches should consult with their institutions about COI and acceptance of payment.


7. Individuals currently serving as mentors and coaches for the other AIM-AHEAD Programs are not eligible to apply.


8. Individuals who are currently trainees or research fellows in other AIM-AHEAD programs are not eligible to apply.


9. Coaches must be in good standing with their organization.


10. Coaches must adhere to AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center policies, termination, non-compliant agreements, and the terms and conditions outlined here in the Call for Coaches announcement.


11. AIM-AHEAD MPIs can participate as AIM-AHEAD coaches but will NOT receive the coaches’ stipend per NIH requirements.


12. Coaches will receive a $1,000 stipend paid at the end of the program. Payment of the total stipend is based on fulfillment of coach expectations specified in the Call for Coaches and Coach Manual.
